Subaru cars are popular with racing drivers and have been used in many races, including drag, endurance, rally racing, and rallycross. Subaru drivers have won many national rallycross championships. Popular Subaru models among racing drivers include versions of the sporty WRX and the reliable Subaru Legacy. London Dragway
The London Dragway has been around since the end of the last century and is located in London, Kentucky, just over two hours southeast of Louisville at 3835 White Oak Road. It’s not the closest raceway to Louisville, but it’s worth a visit for a fun weekend. Weekly drag races happen from March through November, with testing on Friday nights and racing on Saturdays. The popular Grunge Wars events happen on the fourth weekend of each month through October, with other events throughout the season, including the Outlaw Pro Mods and Summit Super Series. These events have cash and trophy prizes.
NCM Motorsports Park
The NMC Motorsport Park is located at 505 Kimberlee A. Fast Drive in Bowling Green, Kentucky, less than two hours south of Louisville. This track offers driving experiences where you can bring your car and do some laps driving above highway speeds. This is a great place to go if you want to find out what your car can do, get some practice, and meet other drivers. NMC Motorsport Park sponsors fun events like 24 Hours of Lemons, an endurance race for cars valued at less than $500. Bring your battered old clunker and see how much life it has left.
Kentucky Speedway
Once home to NASCAR races and other notable events, the Kentucky Speedway in Sparta is no longer used for races. These events were canceled in 2020 and have sadly not returned to the speedway. Perhaps one day, this 1.5-mile oval speedway, with a storied history, will once again be used for races. For now, you can check out the speedway if you’re looking for a fast car driving adventure. It is one of the Rusty Wallace Racing Experience tracks, where you can drive one of their fast cars around the track to get a taste of car racing speed.
Florence Speedway
You’ll find the Florence Speedway at 12234 US-42 in Walton, Kentucky, a little over an hour from Louisville. The track is a half-mile clay oval built in the 1950s and has a long history of hosting dirt track racing and late-model events. The track season runs from March through October, with dirt racing events on Saturday nights. Come to the Florence Speedway for fun racing events like Super Late Models, Modifieds, Crate Late Models, Sport Mods, and more. One of its main events is the North/South 100 in the summer. You’ll also find many more events in the fall.
Ohio Valley Dragway
Louisville’s own Ohio Valley Dragway is located at 17301 Dixie Highway, about half an hour south of the city center. This is a one-eighth-mile concrete drag track with weekly races on Saturday nights from March through October, with Test and Tune events happening on Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 10 p.m. The Friday Night Street Car Shootout occurs monthly, with other fun events scheduled throughout the year, including 502 Underground NO PREP races and the NHRA Doorslammer National in the fall. The track follows NHRA safety rules to ensure a fun, safe time for all.
Sportsdrome Speedway
The Sportsdrome Speedway is located across the state border from Louisville at 1201 Kopp Lane in Jeffersonville, Indiana. This figure-8 track was originally built in the 1940s and has been run by the same dedicated family ever since, now in their third generation. Races are held at the Sportsdrome Speedway every Saturday from late March to the beginning of October, with the final racing event of the year being the Mid-Western Figure 8 Championship. In addition to car racing, other events throughout the season include family-fun go-kart races, circus performances, and more.
