Subaru Safety Features

January 5th, 2023 by

Subaru has a well-earned reputation for making quality vehicles you can rely on to perform. As a result, Subaru owners enjoy a lower cost of ownership, resulting in the highest customer loyalty in the industry. As new models arrive, Subaru continues to deliver on its legacy of providing the most capable vehicles on the market.

However, many people overlook Subaru’s safety systems. Subaru has invested in developing the most advanced passive and active safety systems available today. So, to help you better understand the value of Subaru’s safety systems, we had our experts explain these features.

Subaru STARLINK Safety and Security

Subaru’s STARLINK services were designed to elevate your ownership experience. With STARLINK, you have access to many convenience features and emergency services. In addition, STARLINK delivers these services when and where you need them. You can access STARLINK from your phone from anywhere, at home on your computer, or through your Subaru’s in-vehicle infotainment system.

Subaru’s STARLINK has a Concierge feature that gives you immediate in-vehicle help. For example, you can use Concierge to book a room at a hotel along your route, find and reserve a table at a convenient restaurant, or purchase theater or sporting event tickets, to name just a few of the many activities you can take part in. Once you decide on an activity, Concierge can find your destination and deliver directions to your in-vehicle navigation system. In addition, you can schedule service at your local Subaru dealer using your STARLINK Concierge.

STARLINK also helps you manage the different drivers who may get behind the wheel of your Subaru. For example, you can set up alerts triggered when a driver exceeds the speed limit, exits a preset boundary, breaks a curfew, and more. Parents find these alerts helpful teaching tools for young drivers. And STARLINK sends these push notifications to your cellphone, so you can stay on top of things no matter where you go. You can set up alerts through the MySubaru smartphone app or at MySubaru.com.

You also enjoy Subaru’s Automatic Collision Notification system, which alerts a Customer Care Advisor through the STARLINK system when your Subaru is involved in an accident. You’ll receive a call from a live operator communicating through your Subaru’s audio speakers. Your Customer Care Advisor will contact emergency response services and stay on the phone until help arrives. Your Automatic Collision Notification works 24 hours a day/seven days a week.

STARLINK also helps you maintain proper vehicle health, providing real-time reports on your Subaru’s systems. You’ll receive comprehensive diagnostics and routine maintenance reminders, and you can even schedule your service using STARLINK. If a warning or check engine light activates, you’ll receive an alert including a detailed description and a recommended response. And you can access all your diagnostics, like driving range, tire pressure, oil levels, and more, using the MySubaru app.

Additional security features include alarm activation alerts through STARLINK. Once your Subaru’s alarm activates, you can check on your car and, if necessary, contact the police. STARLINK can initiate its stolen vehicle recovery service if your vehicle gets stolen. This service can shut down your Subaru, and STARLINK notifies the police of your car’s location. This results in a quick recovery before more damage or total loss can occur.

Finally, if you ever experience a breakdown and need assistance, STARLINK features a blue “i” button on the overhead console. Pressing the button will dispatch non-emergency roadside assistance to your location using GPS location services. In addition, STARLINK has a red “SOS” button that calls your Customer Care Advisor for emergency help.

Subaru EyeSight

Every Subaru comes with Subaru EyeSight, a suite of advanced driver assistance systems designed to elevate your Louisville commute and keep you safe. The suite includes Adaptive Cruise Control, which allows you to set a preset distance to the car ahead. Then, the system automatically adjusts your speed to maintain your selected space. Some Subarus have an Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control system. In addition to maintaining a pre-determined distance to the vehicle you follow, this system also uses gentle steering correction to keep you centered in your lane. These systems have proven to reduce driver fatigue and improve safety.

A Lane Keep-Assist system uses sensors to track your Subaru when traveling within marked lanes. You receive visual and audio alerts when the system detects an unintentional drift, allowing you to react. Subaru’s Pre-Collision Braking system uses radar and cameras to scan the road ahead for cars, pedestrians, and other obstacles. When the system detects an obstacle, it alerts you and can activate emergency brake support if you react slowly.

Subaru EyeSight also includes a Pre-Collision Throttle Management system that works with the Pre-Collision Braking system. Pre-Collision Throttle Management recognizes when an accident is imminent and automatically reduces throttle input to help slow your Subaru down and mitigate the potential severity of an accident.

A DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation system works like your co-pilot. DriverFocus detects when the driver gets distracted or exhibits drowsy behavior and alerts you. In addition, this system can distinguish between five driver profiles.

Subaru’s Blind Spot Detection system gives you eyes where you usually can’t see. Using sensors to scan behind and to either side of your Subaru, this system alerts you when vehicles enter your blind spot. You receive visual and audio alerts to the side mirrors through your infotainment system. And a Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system uses similar technology to alert you to approaching vehicles from either side while in reverse.

EyeSight systems reduce stress and driver fatigue while lowering rear-end accidents with injuries by 85%. As a result, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has recognized Subaru EyeSight by awarding all Subaru vehicles equipped with this technology their highest possible rating for front crash prevention.

Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) System

Subaru’s legendary AWD system optimizes your car’s balance and traction. Placement of the AWD system in the vehicle’s center line balances weight distribution to maximize control and performance. And Subaru’s BOXER engine was designed to attach to the drivetrain directly. As a result, you get smooth power delivery to all four wheels.
